The British are Coming!

We decided to sign The Boy up for a traveling British Soccer Camp. His coaches came to the US to teach kids how to play soccer and they are traveling all over the US this summer. Well this week they are here and The Boy has been perfecting his soccer skills which up to this point include watching planes in the sky, picking grass and walking like a robot in the field. Man, they have their work cut out for them. I was impressed to see that he was actually playing the game! He did still maintain his normal trying to chat with all of the ponytail girls, but he was actually running after the ball! Perhaps soccer will be different this year, we shall see in the fall.

On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!

We had Field Day at the end of the school year and the kids were great despite the fact that it was about 100 degrees and no shade to be found. They were so excited because this is the first year they could participate in the whole field day and win ribbons. Our son will do anything for a ribbon except hold a sopping wet sponge over his head in the relay race - he hates to get yucky just like his Dad.

Our son took a field trip to the local businesses to learn about commerce. First stop Wal-Mart where they learned the Wal-Mart cheer and they also got to go behind the curtain so to say and took a peek into the big freezer which was the highlight of the trip. They also liked the box crusher. Next stop was lunch, pizza of course. Then off to the bank where the only questions revolved around the bank robbery that happened a few weeks back. Next to the fire house and then to Safeway. The Boy has learned the art of becoming the volunteer from Church. Essentially he stands within close proximity to the person he deems will be selecting volunteers and then he stretches his hand waaaaaay up high and flashes his baby blues. In this case he got to push the button to grind the meat - yuck. It's fun to see him in his element.

Clearly the driveway does not provide enough practice time so we decided to take a visit to my old HS track. It went better than the first attempt, but there was still a fair amount of leaning and slight panic for our brave but unwilling to let his training wheels go son. I mean really - the neighborhood boys would be nice enough not to make fun of a 15 year old with training wheels... right so perhaps this is all in vain...

I know there are tons of great Moms out there, but there is something pretty awesome about seeing a Dad and his boy learning how to ride his first big boy bike. Plus he has a height advantage.

First Grade

It's just fair having to got to school just 2 days after coming home from vacation. Mommy has had homework all week! The Boy said that he likes his teacher because she knows all about science and worms.

This was the first day of kindergarten - boy am I happy that grade is over with! I was told that the difference between Kindergarten and First Grade is that you have more toys in the room in Kindergarten. It only goes down hill from here sweetie - wait till medical school (:

A Leap of Faith

My Husband and I sat through a sermon a few months back and they showed a clip from Robots. It was the part where Rodney's Mom and Dad were talking about whether Rodney should be able to go to the big city to sell his invention to Mr. Bigweld. Rodney's Dad convinces his Mom that she has to let him go so he can experience the world. You can gather that we go to a well unconventional Church. I thought about this today when my boy did something that left to my own devices I would have probably held him back from.

He just learned how to swim this Summer. Look at that determination.

I bet he feels totally free and on top of the world.Thanks sweetie for letting out the line even though I hold tightly to it at the other end.

This was also off the high dive. The moral of our Revrend's story was about how couples compliment eachother. I wonder if Mary and Joseph had these same conversations?

100 days and Sunrise

Yesterday was the 100th day of school. It seems like our boy just got on the bus for his first day of kindergarten! He is starting to read and he loves to rhyme. Unfortunately all the kids like to rhyme and they are starting to pair first names with silly words - our dear son now has ferret at the end of his name - poor kid. I went through all of the rhymes in my head when he was named and alas it has happened. You notice I say "when he was named" not "when we named him". My dear hubby waited till all the delivery drugs kicked in and picked a name not on the list. Good thing I liked it!

This morning I came downstairs and was stopped in my tracks by a beautiful sunrise - yes Sweetie I ACTUALLY made it up before the sun! Well, right before, but it was still before!

I'm off to eat my shredded wheat before the day officially starts - have a beautiful Friday!

My Little Heart breaker

Yesterday I was doing all of the typical hurrying to get out to the school bus stuff when I stood at the door with my dear son and started going through my list:

Me - O.k. - I remembered your Box Tops for Education, your check for the pumpkin patch, your homework..... hmmm.... did I forget anything?

The Little Heart breaker - Yes Mommy...... did you remember that I love you?
