Bella's Surprise

One of my friends brought over a huge treasure to surprise Bella with a couple weeks ago. She was in 7th Heaven! She carries these all over - first we had a pony bag, then we had a pony tote and now we have a pony box. The box is a little cumbersome, but she manages. My husband has a theory that the amount of stuff a woman carries around grows exponentially with the size of her purse. It is looking like this theory is true. She is sitting on top of her ponies in the box below.

PG-13

My hubby and I share a pretty sick dry sense of humor which really is what makes our marriage last through the hard times. The other day I bought a bathing suit and it came with one of those plastic fake woman molds. Well, I put it under the sheets on his side of the bed. Tonight I came home after my Mom's B-day dinner and found this on his side of the bed.

Happy B-day

Happy Birthday Mom!

Storing up for the Summer

Last weekend we had a cooking marathon. I picked up a book at the library on freezer meals and then went shopping for all the ingredients. We chopped and chopped and chopped.

We wound up with about 10 meals and 5 sides of sweet potato casseroles.

Cooking Under Pressure

Last Summer I decided to branch out in my cooking style and I purchased a pressure cooker. Let me just say that I was scared to death when I used it the first time. In fact, the kids and I huddled just outside the kitchen while it blew steam and the little topper gently rocked back and forth. We are now very well versed with this odd contraption and most importantly we are no longer scared. In fact, the boy likes to walk by the stove and hit the cabinet to make it blow steam harder.I made a pretty yummy chicken curry dish last week. The cool thing is you just brown the meat, throw in some sauce and let it do whatever it does for only 7 minutes. A busy Mom can't beat that time! Let me know if you have any yummy pressure cooker recipes.

Sibbling Love

Bella and Grandmom made cookies this week and the boy loved them! Well, like all good things, the cookies finally came to an end. This morning Grandmom asked Bella if she would make more cookies for her brother and she responded "Ummmmmmm No". He was not pleased.

Conjunction Junction

An old friend from High School posted a Blog about his son struggling to learn the Preamble to the Constitution for school. Like a good Dad he pulled up School House Rock on YouTube for a little help. It made me remember how cool these were so I watched a few of them with my morning tea. I don't see any of these great cartoons among Dora, Spiderman and the Johnny Test cartoons my kids watch. It's all about nutrition now (which isn't bad), but I miss School House Rock.

Of course, I went to Catholic school for what seemed like forever and we did all sorts of things that kids probably no longer do like diagram sentences. I think I'll make my kids do this just for kicks. I wish I had a penny for every time I went to a store and watched a high school kid try to figure out 10%.

If I only knew then..... What I know now.

When I was pregnant my friend Natalie invited me to a "Crop" where we would archive our memories for years to come. Well, little did I know that once the kids came I would maybe have time to do the little things in life like finish a full sentence or take a long soaking bath. I also took up knitting while I was pregnant - ask me when I knitted last. So, I am now trying to find the time to get all of these pictures in a book. I need help!

Here is a prime example of how bad it really is around here. I hung this frame on the wall in my office over 3 years ago. These are not my children nor have I ever owned a lab. Bella has named the dog and is probably wondering when she will see him in the yard.I bought all the junk to make the albums - FYI 85% of those albums are empty and I bought them 5 years ago.
There's hope - I pulled Bella's second year and laid them all out as to how I would like to put them in the book. Does anyone want to come over and "Scrap" with me? I could use a little divine inspiration or at least someone to pass the time with while I am arranging all of these and madly pasting them down. BTW - Natalie moved to TN and left me here with all of this paper - Thanks Nat!

Taco Bell Experiment

There is a Taco Bell within easy walking distance of my office. I had six bucks today, so I decided to buy three things I don't know and report to you, our readers, about what they are. Here are my findings:

Chalupa
This is a taco on grilled flat bread. Very greasy.

Double-decker Taco
This is a taco, wrapped in a soft taco shell containing refried beans.

Gordita
This is like a soft chalupa. This was the least greasy of the trio.

Don't search the Internet for a picture of a gordita. When I tried to, I got a bunch of pictures of naked women. Boy, was I shocked, until my spanish-speaking cow-orker reminded me "gordita" means "small, fat woman" in spanish.

Rent-A-Dad

I had a great new business idea while we were fixing dinner after playing in the snow with the kids - Rent-a-Dad! Single Moms or Moms with husbands in the military or away on extended business could call in and Rent-A-Dad for little tasks such as going to the dump, fixing the toilet, or pulling a 38 pound toddler up and down the hill in the cold. I was sure happy to have my hubby around last night! This may look like all fun, but there is a lot of upper body strength involved!
There is also a certain amount of bravery to protect your daughter from flying off the tube!
This has nothing to do with the theme today, but darn he's a cutie!

Geography Lesson

Today I checked out my stats to see where I am welcoming visitors from on my Blog. I expected more of the same Huntingtown, Annapolis, DC etc., but today I saw an area named Guernsey. "Guernsey?" I thought to myself.... hmmmm. So I had a little geography lesson this cold morning. I wonder what brought Guernsey to me - perhaps they wanted to learn how to play "Tickle the Children". Well, hello Guernsey!
The Bailiwick of Guernsey (pronounced /ˈɡɝːnzi/; French: Bailliage de Guernesey) is a British Crown dependency in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy.
As well as the island of Guernsey itself, it also includes Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou, Brecqhou, Burhou, Lihou and other islets. Although the defence of all these islands is the responsibility of the United Kingdom, Guernsey is not part of the UK but rather a separate possession of the Crown, comparable to the Isle of Man. Guernsey is also not part of the European Union. The island of Guernsey is divided into 10 parishes. Together with the Bailiwick of Jersey, it is included in the collective grouping known as the Channel Islands. Guernsey belongs to the Common Travel Area.

Our Snow Day

I was standing in the hallway at Church when I heard someone say "Maybe up to 10 inches of snow before it's all over." I've been so busy that I missed all the news about the impending snow storm. I went through the list in my head - bananas: check, milk: nope, toilet paper: check, bread:nope..... so off to the store I rushed after the bouncy Birthday party we attended.
It started as a light dusting and my hubby took the kids out to play while I unpacked groceries.
Dad was so excited about coming home a little early to hit the hill with his prized Radio Flyer that he bought 3 years ago and still has not been to use. Unfortunately the snow was just too deep and only the tubes could make it down the hill. They had a blast nonetheless.

There aren't many pics of Bella because the snow was thigh deep for her and she just kept repeating "It's too deep!". The poor thing ran into the snow fell on her face and was stranded like the kids you see on TV unable to move with all of her snow gear. It's hard to be 3 some days.

Children just seem to gravitate to my husband perhaps it's because....They can relate to him so easily or because...

He can play a mean game of play dough.
